Many people are concerned at the threat to freedom in our universities as certain views come to dominate academic life, cultural establishments and the media. Not only is the open-minded approach to teaching under threat; so also is Britain’s international standing as a home of excellence in research and scholarship. On Tuesday 24 May 2022, 12:30pm – 1:30pm, Politeia will hold a special event to consider the problem and whether the government must take further action to protect academic freedom in the universities.
Speakers include:
- Tom Hunt MP, House of Commons Education Select Committee, Skills and Post-16 Education [HL] Bill Committee
- Dr David Butterfield, Queens’ College, Cambridge and Faculty of Classics, Cambridge
- Dr James Orr, Faculty of Divinity, Cambridge
- Professor Nigel Biggar, Christ Church, Oxford, Regius Professor of Moral and Pastoral Theology
Dr Sheila Lawlor, Research Director, Politeia, will chair the meeting.
