Taking the Politics Out of University Teaching

Many people are concerned at the threat to freedom in our universities as certain views come to dominate academic life, cultural establishments and the media. Not only is the open-minded approach to teaching under threat; so also is Britain’s international standing as a home of excellence in research and scholarship. On Tuesday 24 May 2022, 12:30pm – 1:30pm, Politeia will hold a special event to consider the problem and whether the government must take further action to protect academic freedom in the universities.

Speakers include:

  • Tom Hunt MP, House of Commons Education Select Committee, Skills and Post-16 Education [HL] Bill Committee
  • Dr David Butterfield, Queens’ College, Cambridge and Faculty of Classics, Cambridge
  • Dr James Orr, Faculty of Divinity, Cambridge
  • Professor Nigel Biggar, Christ Church, Oxford, Regius Professor of Moral and Pastoral Theology

Dr Sheila Lawlor, Research Director, Politeia, will chair the meeting.
