Douglas Carswell was a Member of Parliament between 2005 and 2017, representing Harwich then Clacton. he sat as a Conservative between 2005 and 2014, when he resigned to contest a by-election at which he was successfully re-elected as the UK Independence Party candidate - the party's first elected MP, although sitting as an Independent in his final months in the House of Commons between March and May 2017. He is co-author of The Plan: 12-months to renew Britain (2008) and Direct Democracy - An Agenda for a New Model Party (2005) and was author for Politeia of After Osbrown: Mending Monetary Policy (2014).
