2010 Events Round-up

This year saw Politeia running flagship conferences, lectures and seminars which tackled a wide range of issues, from public services, fiscal policy and economic growth, to defence, transport, education and constitutional issues.

December Martin Howe QC and Jacob Rees-Mogg MP discussed William Hague's Bill to protect British sovereignty - as exists in other EU member states.

November Schools Minister Nick Gibb took up the proposals in Latin for Language Learners. His address reflected the change of direction on language teaching policy shown in last week’s White Paper, The Importance of Teaching.

October saw Politeia heading to the Conservative Party Conference in Birmingham where speakers included Cabinet Minister Oliver Letwin, Lord Strathclyde, Universities Minister David Willetts, Attorney General Dominic Grieve and Northern Ireland Secretary Owen Paterson.

March Andrew Mitchell, Secretary of State for International Development, discussed One World Conservatism how the UK would support overseas development under a Conservative Government and ensure the best value for money.

February Dr Liam Fox, now Defence Secretary, explained how a Conservative Government would defend Britain’s national interests and security in an increasingly unstable world, working with the allies of the UK, including the US and France, as well as within NATO.

January Shadow Transport Secretary Theresa Villiers, MP sets out plans for the Railways under a Conservative Government. Ms Villiers discussed the issues at the heart of the debate about rail regulation, reliability and efficiency.
