Populism, Politics and the National Interest: Should politicians or the public have the last word?

Is populism an inevitable trend in today's politics? Should governments choose the policies people want or those which are in their best interests? What steps are needed to restore trust and confidence in Britain’s system of parliamentary democracy?

On Monday 14th February, Politeia will hold a seminar to launch its new pamphlet, Populism and Democracy: Politics in the Public Interest. Speaking on the panel to discuss the themes will be:

  • The Rt Hon Dominic Grieve QC MP, The Attorney General for England and Wales
  • Janet Daley, Columnist, The Sunday Telegraph
  • Professor John Marenbon, Trinity College Cambridge and author of the new pamphlet
