As the UK competes in an ever more competitive global economy, the
Business Minister considers the best way to help British business succeed. He will consider:
- What priority should be given to curbing regulatory, fiscal and employment costs in the UK?
- What impact do external factors play?
- How best can businesses be helped to compete with lower cost orprotected economies?
We are pleased to announce that Peter Sinclair, Emeritus Professor of Economics at the University of Birmingham, will be responding to Mark Prisk after the lecture.

Politeia’s 2012 Recession or Recovery series aims to address the problems facing business in the current economic climate, and the policies needed for growth at a time of ever-greater global competition. It will address such matters as:
- Competing in a wider and uncertain world: How can business compete in the current international climate of fiscal and financial uncertainty? How can it counter the implications of instability or downward growth in the Eurozone and the US?
- Cutting the burden and cost of regulation: What priority should be given to curbing regulatory, fiscal and employment costs in the UK and EU if business is to compete with lower cost or protected economies?
- Access to Finance: What further steps are needed to enable businesses to borrow for or invest in their business and growth?
- Small, Medium and Big Business and the Public Sector: What are the lessons for growth?
Look out for announcements in the coming weeks about the other distinguished speakers which have been lined up for this year's series.
